Sleep No More

We called the NY trip the "Sleep No More Tour," not only because we (finally) saw Sleep No More, but because we didn't get a lot of sleep....

We hit the ground running on Tuesday by arriving, getting our car, and driving down the edge of Manhattan to reach our friend Julie's place in Brooklyn. 

After a nice lunch with her at Hamilton's, we headed into the city and wandered around Rockefeller Plaza, where Beatrix bought the Kate Spade ring of her dreams:

Then dinner at Gayle's Broadway Rose, where Beatrix got to meet someone she has followed on TikTok for years (so cute!).

The show that night was Water for Elephants, which was very good and nicely integrated circus well. I did not exactly go home with the soundtrack as an ear worm, but I was glad to see it. And we got to stay after at stage door and meet the actors and get autographs.

The next night, after a day of college visiting, was dinner at the Mermaid Inn — so good, and the Happy Hour is alive and well in New York! Then my long-time dream of Sleep No More, which probably deserves another post of its own. Your cell phones are locked up, so here's a press image:

Julie is a superfan of Emursive (who did Sleep No More and the newly opened Life and Trust), so we had a great conversation when we got back. We could not see Life and Trust because it's 18+, but we did have coffee in the lobby for the event, Conwell Coffee, over the weekend).

(Tip - if, like a circus parent we talked to, you want to see Sleep No More, don't wait — it closes forever on September 29! In my humble opinion, it might be worth the trip out just to see it).

Thursday we got to meet my long-time secret internet friend, Katherine, and her daughter Miranda who is Beatrix's age for lunch at Le Monde (in retrospect, I wish we had spent more time with them instead of touring Columbia!). We got along even better in person than expected, and I wish I could see her all the time! We bought sweatshirts at H&M because we knew the theater would be cold, had dessert instead of dinner at Serafina, then saw Beatrix's top show on her wish list, The Great Gatsby with Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada.

More stage door, where all the actors were lovely, especially Eva (JJ did not come out, he had been out of the show the night before).

A l-o-n-g day of college touring the next day but we did grab time at Plan Bee Farm Brewery near Poughkeepsie that was lovely. 

We wanted a "fancy dinner" when we got back, so we went to Fandi Mata in Williamsburg thanks to a TikTok tip from Beatrix (their restaurant week menu was amazing!). I tried to convince Beatrix that, since we had been to Williamsburg, she should read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Our last day was just for bumming around: wandering the street makes near Washington Square, paying homage to Taylor Swift's old place on Cornelia Street, getting rice pudding at Rice to Riches, sitting in the Trinity Church Graveyard and eating street food, shopping at boutiques and Century21 and the like, the aforementioned Conwell Coffee, and rising Patrick friend Zach's store, Measure Twice, in Cobble Hill.

It was a great week with lots of adventures!
