50th Iditarod

Image
You may not know it, but I am a HUGE dog-mushing enthusiast. I firmly blame Kathleen Anderson at Wintermoon Summersun , who introduced me to it several years ago at a mother-daughter mushing weekend. At that time, we also met Cindy Gallea, who had run the Iditarod 12 times. And thus, I also became hooked on the Iditarod. (I had not actually seen a dog race until we went to the Klondike Dog Derby in Excelsior this year. It was every bit as amazing as I had hoped, and I even got to fangirl over Blair Braverman and Pepe.) In any case, a few years ago I started following the Iditarod more closely. At that time, there were still old school forums on their site . At the beginning of the pandemic, I remember a person on the forum live-streaming the Nome finishes from their hotel room window, and I will never forget the thrill of hearing the horns and seeing the racers come through the burled arch in. It's as close as I may ever come to seeing it live (though it's a bucket list item f

I Get By (with a little help from my friends)

Surgery yesterday went about as well as it could have, and since I was still on a nerve blocker I defied doctor orders and went to Beatrix's performance as Peter Pan in Shrek (Jr.) at SPA (shows left tonight at 7 and tomorrow at 2, a little under 2 hours, free admission at the door). He's been incredibly patient with dressing me like a toddler, driving me to clients, helping me bathe, and listening to me freak out. Plus running the house, getting Beatrix places, having rigging meetings, getting the cranky older cat wet food, etc. The other night, in discussing one of the other big curveballs, he said one of the sweetest things to me ever. I married up,

Broken Wrist Update

Yup, it's about what you would think. This is us having lunch after we learned I'll need surgery THIS WEEK STILL for this wrist. I won't be able to be at Beatrix's opening night for her show. I'm gutted. We ate at The Lowry, using gift cards, for the first time since my dad died. We ran into Lisa Channer, which was lovely (even if her life is as complicated as ours). We ran some errands. We penciled in all the pre-op medical appointments I need, and moved appointments. We talked to B's new therapist, who is leaving the practice before B even starts with her, so we need to start again. We checked in on Patrice's Handy Heights GoFundMe , which has stalled a little and needs help. I got a very little bit of client work done -- I'm way too distracted. Any my friends have been great. They have texted to check in on me (one checks every day, I don't think she has any idea how much that means.) Another friend brought us amazing jambalaya, perfect for celebr
