Waking Miss Daisy
If, like me, you have been worried about the state of theater in the Twin Cities ... you should see this play.
If, like me, you have been overwhelmed with everything going on in Minnesota over the past couple of months ... you should see this play.
If, like me, you want a night out with your family and to see some great theater ... you should go see this play.
Honestly — incredible performances, a really interesting concept, effective and non-pandering use of media, strong direction, thought inspiring, well-researched — it has it all.
The Star Tribune has flat out said they will now only review four theaters in town: the Guthrie, Children's Theater, Hennepin Stages, and the Ordway. I'm not throwing any shade on those institutions, because we're all in this together. But that means it's up to all of us to tell others they should go see shows and talk about them, so that's what I'm doing.
At the Frey Theater at St. Kate's (the one kind of in front of O'Shaughnessy, it might be easiest to park on Randolph). It runs tomorrow and then one more (partial) weekend. There's a friendly staff that can help you get tickets at the door if online buying and service fees bum you out. Tickets are pay as you will. It's 80 minutes long, no intermission. You can even get a shamrock shake afterwards, like we did. See, I just solved all your logistics.
So go see it — and then let's talk about it.
