Labor Day Saturday

"I hope you blog about this" said my friend Sarah, when I ran into her this weekend. "I probably will," I responded. It was the kind of day that would heave been pretty incredible before the pandemic — but on this particular Labor Day weekend, was perfect.

It actually started last night, when we had a small group of friends over for socially distanced swimming and BYOB in the back yard. These are all people we have known since Beatrix was in kindergarten at Randolph Heights, fantastic people we often "gather" with (usually via Zoom) on Friday nights. I feel soooo lucky to have them in our lives!

Then today began with a neighbor who had a mini-donut machine, and who was making mini-donuts in her garage and giving them out free (that's where I ran into Sarah). They were perfection. They had all kinds of sugar toppings — traditional cinnamon sugar (Beatrix), lemon basil (me), or the winner of the day, a mix of oreo and espresso (Patrick). Delicious!

We then stopped by our place at Hague, to admire the gorgeous gardens our friend Anne has put in while she's been living there. We'll miss her there, but are excited to get back on that project!

While we were doing that, we were able to tune in and watch our friend Amalia's (and Drake's) aufruf. I've known Amalia since I became friends with her parents Chris and Rachel when she was literally a baby, and one of the most wonderful things is when your friends' kids grow up and turn out to be fantastic people that you are happy to know in their own right. I'm sooo excited to virtually attend their wedding tomorrow, and so impressed with the flexibility they have had in wedding changes during this time.

We then headed over to shop the free rack at Rethink (speaking of places that have been through a lot and shown flexibility with the pandemic; this is a store that owned to the public on March 14!). It's a place I really admire — stay tuned for my review of her virtual mending class.

Then we went to my friend Jennifer's to play mini-golf in the course she and her neighbor kids set up in her front yard. Walker Art Center, eat your heart out — this was a blast! I miss the State Fair dreadfully, but I love how people are making up for it, with mini donuts and yard golf and State Fair night at home and such.

Then we decided to try a new taproom, so headed over to Prye's, which was lovely. Watch for a Brutus on Brewpubs covering that soon.

Finally, just some time to read at Summit (in my awesome new outdoor loveseat I got for free on the BST board). And a G&T with Hendricks Summer Gin. What could be better?

Hope your Labor Day weekend is equally fantastic!
